Judge Mr. David Guemple

Thank you to the PWCCWR for inviting me to judge the 2017 Specialty show. Hospitality was excellent as usual, the welcome basket in my lovely room was great, and the garment bag with the artistic rendering by Hope Weisburn, of one near and dear to me that will complement my shaving kit with Red Affair’s image, was wonderful! Thank you also to the show committee, my ring steward and all the people that it takes to put on such a top notch show. Thank you also to all the exhibitors who brought their lovely corgis for me to judge, overall quality was good and there were several “stars” in my eyes. Feet, bites, and nice heads were the status quo, but I observed the usual concerns for front structure and placement and rib to loin proportions which continue to be an issue. All of the dogs were shown in lovely condition, and those who were seasonally out of coat were clean and in good weight.

~ David Guempel (Gaylord)

PUPPY DOGS 9 TO 12 MONTHS (1 entered, 1 absent)

12 TO 15 MONTH DOGS (2 entered, 0 absent)

1.  BRYNLEA SANDFOX CASHEW BUTTER (GCh. Sandfox Eweknow Eclipse Of The Heart x Ch. Brynlea Rhythm Of The Rain) Breeders: Brenda Stiles, Vicki L. Sandage & Dr. Sandra L. Hanson. Owner: Brenda Stiles. Nice masculine dog, just over a year old, well put together, and a very appealing headpiece. He had a nice shoulder structure and placement with a very nice prosternum. There were moments of glory while moving that told me his off and on lack of coordinated gaiting was a growth issue. WINNERS DOG

2.  HARMONY I’M A TRAVELING MAN (GCh. Sandfox Cadenza x GCh. Harmony Connemara Single Malt) Breeder: Melody A. Kist. Owners: Sean Sullivan, Ann Sullivan & Melody Kist. A sable dog with a nice headpiece and an acceptable self colored eye. This dog had a nice side gait, but lacked the depth of body and let down for his age.

15 TO 18 MONTH DOGS (1 entered, 0 absent)

1.  BRYNLEA IT’S NOT UNUSUAL (GChB. Brynlea Sandfox Shadowdancer, BN RE CA CGC x Brynlea Rhythm Is Gonna Get U) Breeder: Brenda Stiles. Owners: Bonnie Foster & Brenda Stiles. A richly tricolor dog with a pretty head piece and a very full white collar. I would have liked him to be a bit longer in back, with a better rib to loin proportion to give him a more solid top line/middle piece and fluid side gait.

OPEN DOGS (1 entered, 0 absent)

1.  GREENWOODS MIDNIGHT ADVENTURE (Ch. Linincorgi’s Don’t Stop Believin x Ch. Greenwoods Midnight Melody) Breeders: Deidre Rodgers & Mary Greenwood. Owner: Melanie Smith. A tricolor dog with nice breed type and a pleasant head and nice dark eye. Very correct outline, nice topline and croup. He simply failed in front movement today. RESERVE WINNERS DOG

PUPPY BITCHES 6 TO 9 MONTHS (4 entered, 3 absent)

1.  GREENWOODS BLACK DIAMOND (Greenwoods Midnight Flyer x Ch. Sandfox Greenwoods Chances Are) Breeders: Deidre Rodgers, Mary Greenwood & Sharon Irving. Owners: Deidre Rodgers & Mary Greenwood. A pretty tricolor girl of good type and correct structure along with a correct feminine head piece. It was, however, hard to evaluate movement as she was not being very cooperative today in the ring. BEST PUPPY

PUPPY BITCHES 9 TO 12 MONTHS (1 entered, 1 absent)

12 TO 15 MONTH BITCHES (6 entered, 2 absent)

The BEST class of the day!

1.  AUBREY’S DOIN’ IT FREESTYLE (GChS. Nchanted Concerto x GChG. Aubrey’s Moon River) Breeders/Owners: Cynthia M. Savioli & Vincent J. Savioli. This one caught my attention when she entered the ring. A very rich red bitch of correct length to height proportions and a lovely coordinated side gait. She had a very sweet head on a nice long neck that blended beautifully into a solid topline. Further examination revealed a correct shoulder to upper arm proportion, with correct angles and layback. She had good length of ribbing to loin and beautiful rear angles, with a nice turn of stifle. To be a bit nitpicky, her head is a bit long in muzzle, but at 1 year old today, I’m sure that it will mature and soften. This exhibit is “star quality” which is what earned her WINNERS BITCH, BEST OF WINNERS. I would change one other thing about her, she needs to reside at Gaylord!

2.  BRYNLEA NUTELLA OF SANDFOX (GCh. Sandfox Eweknow Eclipse Of The Heart x Ch. Brynlea Rhythm Of The Rain) Breeders: Brenda Stiles, Vicki Sandage & Dr. Sandra L. Hanson. Owners: Brenda Stiles & Vicki Sandage. A lovely red bitch with a nice outline and correct type. Many similarities to the first place bitch, but the first place girl had that “look at me” presence.

3.  BRYNLEA WELL PARDON ME (GChB. Brynlea Sandfox Shadowdancer, BN RE CA CGC x Ch. Brynlea Pardon My French) Breeder: Brenda Stiles. Owners: Arlene Carr & Brenda Stiles. A red bitch of good breed type, outline and side gait. Well put together overall, with a lovely neck, topline and balance. Again, she was just outshined by the first and second place bitches.

4.  CORGARD’S CATCH A GLIMPSE (GCh. Corgard’s Dial One-VIII-Hundred Yum Yum, CAA x Ch. Corgard’s Rise Of The Second Stun) Breeders/Owners: Kandy L. Boll & Michele L. Pohl. Pretty light red bitch with a sweet face and super dark eyes and eye rims. She was a good mover and correct from all angles, but would like a bit more length.

BRED BY EXHIBITOR BITCHES (2 entered, 0 absent)

1.  CORGARD JORASH YOUR SO VAIN (GChS. Nchanted Concerto x Ch. Jorash Corgard Promise From My Heart) Breeders/Owners: Ellen Schusterson, Kandy Boll & Michele L. Pohl. A lovely dark red with a pretty head and long neck. She follows down into correct set shoulders and adequate rib to loin proportions. She also had a lovely deep rear and moved well from all angles. She carried a nice topline and good length of body.

2.  TOWNHILL WHAT’S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT (GChS. Nchanted Concerto x GCh. Townhill Penny Lane) Breeders/Owners: Mark Russo & Holly Russo. A very pretty red bitch. It was splitting hairs, and she had many of the same qualities of the first place bitch, but I preferred the length of body on the first place bitch.

OPEN BITCHES (8 entered, 2 absent)

A quality class!

1.  BEAUMANOR IRISH EYES (GCh. Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x Ch. Saddle Lane Bond Girl) Breeders: Robin Herrick & Neil Herrick. Owners: Robin Herrick & Mari Carroll. A pretty red bitch with a very attractive head piece and nice outline. She moved well from all angles and had that “look at me” attitude. She also had good length and solid topline on the move. Pleased to award her RESERVE WINNERS BITCH.

2.  KARMA SPIRIT OF ECSTACY (GChB. Heartsong Brynlea Pavarotti x Brynlea Bada Bling) Breeders: Brenda Stiles & Denise Hartley. Owner: Denise Hartley. A quality bitch with a lovely head piece and neck. She had correct shoulders with correct lay back. She also had adequate rib to loin proportions and a solid rear. Very nice side gait and very little separated her from the first place bitch.

3.  CALLOWAY GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES (GChB. Sandfox Golden Whistler x Sundance Brynlea Marilyn Monroe) Breeders: Pam Brannock & Brenda Stiles. Owners: Karen Werfield & Pam Brannock. A very nice bitch with a correct head and long neck. Well placed shoulders with nice lay back. She also had good rib to loin proportions. She had flashy markings with a full white collar and blaze. Although she did have a smaller stature, she still had good depth of body and substance along with a nice side gait.

4.  BRYNLEA COFFEE CUP FOUR ON THE FLOOR, CA (GChB. Woodsedge Brynlea Noir Like Me x Brynlea Just Enuff Glee, CA) Breeders: Lisa P. Ben-Dror, Brenda Stiles & Susan Klar. Owners: Kierstin Holmes, Lisa Pawl Ben-Dror & Patricia Flanagan. Another bitch of smaller stature but again good substance. Has many of the same qualities of the girls above and earned her placement because of her correct, easy gait.

Shining stars in these Veterans classes!

VETERAN DOGS 7 TO 10 YEARS (2 entered, 0 absent)

1.  GCH. SANDFOX CADENZA (GChB. Heartsong Brynlea Pavarotti x Ch. Sandfox Destiny, PT) Breeders: Vicki L. Sandage & Deidre Rodgers. Owners: Denise Hartley, Vicki L. Sandage & Brenda Stiles. This dog obviously loves being in the ring and shows it with his “star quality” presence. A quality dog of good proportions and still carrying a solid topline. Overall sound structure and moves around the ring with a nice easy side gait. His “look at me” attitude along with his physical attributes earned him an AWARD OF MERIT.

2.  GCH. CREEKSIDE HARD WORKIN MAN (Ch. Aberlee Storm Force x Ch. Knightsbridge Picabo Street) Breeders: Michael E. Scott & Michelle Scott. Owner: Kathleen S. Norcia. The older man in the class, but still sound and carrying a good topline.

VETERAN BITCHES 10 YEARS AND OVER (2 entered, 0 absent)

1.  GCHB. GREENWOODS MOONLIGHT MELODY (Ch. Byendebrok Maplecreek Baccarat, CD HSAs MX AXJ x Ch. Greenwoods Moonlight Madness) Breeders/Owners: Deidre Rodgers & Mary Greenwood. A lovely red bitch that I have always admired and held in the highest esteem. Today however, was something special. A real “star quality” show dog! She has always been a good mover, very correct from all angles, with good reach and drive on the side gait. Today was the best I’ve ever seen her. She showed off all her lovely qualities at a gait that allowed you to see her lovely front reach and drive off the rear. Very balanced movement front to rear with a solid back allowing for good transmission. She’s a credit to her breeders/owners/exhibitors. Her lovely type and soundness at 10+ years old earned her the highest honors of BEST OF BREED, BEST VETERAN today!

2.  CORALIE BEAUCARE GRACE (Ch. Dwynella Black Benny x Ch. Ranchosierra September Storm) Breeders: Carol Liebich & Becky Dubose. Owners: Casey Pawl, DVM & Carol Liebich. At 14 years old, this fine girl had a good outing. She has a nice outline with a solid back still. She moved well for her age, but a few less pounds would probably work to her advantage.

BEST OF BREED (21 entered, 3 absent)

While this would be considered a smaller show, the quality of entries was outstanding and it carried over into the specials class. It was exciting to see in the flesh some of the dogs you only hear of or see in pictures. As usual, there weren’t enough ribbons for the deserving exhibits, and a few that I felt were of high quality were left unrewarded.

BEST OF BREED, BEST VETERAN

GCHB. GREENWOODS MOONLIGHT MELODY Enough said. She continued her “star quality” ways all the way through the BOB judging even though it had gotten warm! She earned the highest honors, even though a few pressed hard to beat her, she held her own to the end.

BEST OF OPPOSITE SEX

GCHS. NCHANTED CONCERTO (GCh. Sandfox Cadenza x Ch. Nchanted Silk Teddy) Breeder: Carol Braunstein. Owners: Carol Braunstein & Virginia Gilman. A lovely rich red dog with an outstanding outline. Well put together with a correct front and deep driving rear. Lovely topline and good rib to loin proportions. He’s a very strong moving dog, covering ground really well. He pushed the breed winner hard for top honors. I was pleased to see that he was the son of my Veterans dog, and the sire of my Winners Bitch who went Best of Winners and was also a BOB contender.

GCH. BROGAN BRIGHT LIGHT (GCh. Heritage Brogan Light The Lamp x GCh. Brogan Tralee) Breeder/Owner: Mari M. Carroll. A very lovely type bitch with a very pretty head and lovely bone. She was balanced and well built, and a good clean mover.

v Sweepstakes

Judge Ms. Molly Forbes

I would like to thank the members of the PWCCWR for inviting me to judge their Sweepstakes entry at their 19th annual specialty show. Having attended many Western Reserve specialties in the past, I have to say the weather on this day could not have been better at the new show site in a beautiful park right on Lake Erie. This made for a fun and enjoyable day for both dogs and exhibitors. A special thanks to Debbie Brooks, my ring steward, who kept everything running smoothly. Even though my entry was small, I was delighted with the quality of the dogs. Thank you for my judge’s gift, a hand-painted garment bag, created by the talented Hope Weisburn.

PUPPY DOGS 9 TO 12 MONTHS (1 entered, 1 absent)

12 TO 15 MONTH DOGS (1 entered, 0 absent)

1.  HARMONY I’M A TRAVELING MAN This sable dog has a handsome, masculine head with a good ear set. He has nice length of neck that blended into a long and level topline which he held standing and moving. This boy has a good amount of bone and substance. He moves cleanly coming and going. He has a shorter upper arm and a straighter rear angle which only allows him a moderate side gait. BEST OF OPPOSITE IN SWEEPSTAKES

PUPPY BITCHES 6 TO 9 MONTHS (4 entered, 3 absent)

1.  GREENWOODS BLACK DIAMOND A red-headed tricolor girl with a pretty, correct, feminine head with nice dark eyes, beautiful dark eye mascara and a good ear set. She has a nice length of neck and back with good ribbing. She has a well angulated shoulder and rear which presents a beautiful outline. She covers ground with ease and moves cleanly coming and going. She did not hold her topline as well as I would like on the move.

PUPPY BITCHES 9 TO 12 MONTHS (1 entered, 1 absent)

12 TO 15 MONTH BITCHES (4 entered, 2 absent)

1.  AUBREY’S DOIN’ IT FREESTYLE This red and white girl caught my eye from the moment she walked into the ring. Although I liked the head on the second place girl better and would prefer a shorter muzzle, this girl has a nice dark eye and a good ear set. She has a lovely long neck that blends into well angulated shoulders and a long, level topline. She has good bone and substance with a correct underline and a well angulated rear. This girl covers ground with ease and always holds her topline level. She is clean coming and going. She has the most beautiful, correct outline that could not be denied and it was my pleasure to award her BEST IN SWEEPSTAKES.

2.  CORGARD’S CATCH A GLIMPSE A red and white girl with a correct feminine head. She has a nice length of neck and carries a level topline standing and moving. She has good bone and substance. She is clean coming and going. Her upper arm is shorter so she did not have the side gait of the first place girl. Would prefer a darker eye.

15 TO 18 MONTH BITCHES (2 entered, 1 absent)

1.  BEAUMANOR IRISH EYES Another red and white girl with a pretty feminine head with a nice dark eye and good mascara. She tends to have a lower ear set with a softer ear. She has nice bone and substance. She has a lovely long neck that blends into well angulated shoulders and a solid, level topline. She has a well angulated rear and a correct underline. She moves cleanly coming and going and covers ground nicely from the side.

VETERAN SWEEPSTAKES

VETERAN DOGS 7 TO 10 YEARS (1 entered, 0 absent)

1.  GCH. CREEKSIDE HARD WORKIN A glamorous red and white boy with a handsome, masculine head with a dark eye and good ear set. He has good bone and substance. He has a nice length of neck and back. He carries a level topline and has a well angulated rear. He moves cleanly coming and going but has a shorter upper arm which restricted his movement from the side. BEST OF OPPOSITE SEX IN VETERAN SWEEPSTAKES

VETERAN BITCHES 10 YEARS AND OVER (1 entered, 0 absent)

1.  CORALIE BEAUCARE This little red and white girl loved being back in the ring today and strutted her stuff. She has a pretty feminine head with a nice dark eye. Her ear set was a bit high. She has a good length of neck with blended into a well angled shoulder. She moved cleanly from all directions and it was my pleasure to award her BEST IN VETERAN SWEEPSTAKES.
